The Oswego State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics hired Evan Magnussen as its track and field head coach in the spring of 2018 after he served as interim head coach in 2017-18.  Magnussen was originally hired as the head cross country coach in the spring of 2017.

Magnussen spent a year on the Cortland track and cross country staffs as an assistant prior to his arrival at Oswego. In his time with the Red Dragons, he helped seven athletes qualify for NCAA Championships, four to All-America status and one to a national title (heptathlon).

Magnussen is certified by USATF as Level 1 and he also holds his NYSPHSAA coaching certification. The Geneseo, N.Y. native also was a running instructor and coach for Finger Lakers Running Co. for two years.

A four-year cross country and track and field student-athlete at St. John Fisher College, Magnussen was named a captain of both teams. During his senior campaign, he was named to the Empire 8 All-Conference Team for cross country.
