WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Oswego State wrestling team split a pair of duals on Sunday afternoon at the NY/PA Duals, hosted by Lycoming College. Oswego opened against the host to the tune of a 37-5 loss before bouncing back with a 25-15 victory over King's College. With the split, the Lakers are now 2-4 in duals on the year.
In the first dual of the day,
James Ronca scored the team's five points with a technical fall. The junior defeated Lycoming's Will Newmiller in the 133-pound tilt 16-0 to secure the Lakers' lone win in the match.
Later, versus King's, Oswego got a four-point performance from Steven Culbert and a trio of three-point efforts from
Jonathan Ptacek,
Mark Milisci and
Sean Maloney. Culbert earned the victory over 149-pound counterpart Keegan Williamson with a 9-1 major decision. Ptacek nabbed his three points with a 9-5 decision at 141 while the 165-pound Milisci shutout his opponent 5-0. Maloney, a 184-pound junior, battled back-and-forth with Edward Merrill before a 12-9 triumph.
Sophomore
Troy Seymour collected the most points for the Lakers, registering six after winning in 3:04 due to injury. Also recording six points was
Jacob Yankloski as King's forfeited the 125-pound weight class to Oswego.
Next Friday, the Lakers will not only return to the mats but to Williamsport as well, when Lycoming hosts the two-day Budd Whitehill Division III Duals.
