Wrestling Splits Matches in Second Trip to MSG

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Oswego State wrestling team made its second-straight appearance at the Grapple in the Garden on Sunday, hosted in the World's Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden. Sunday's extravagant wrestling showcase saw the Lakers split a pair of matches, losing to nationally-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology 31-12 before dropping Muhlenberg College 41-7. Oswego is now 1-2 on the year in duals.
 
Against No. 11 Stevens, the Lakers picked up three individual triumphs. Oswego earned back-to-back victories by 174-pound Trevor Hoffmier and 184-pound Jordan Bushey. Hoffmier defeated Josh Smith by 6-2 decision while Bushey needed just 1:33 to pin his counterpart. The final Laker points against the Ducks was heavyweight Kade Andrews, who recorded a 4-1 decision over Pete Andrich.
 
In the nightcap, Oswego was dominant versus Muhlenberg. The Lakers strung together four-straight wins to open the match, including senior James Ronca collecting a 16-1 technical fall at 133-pounds. Evan Corso then grabbed the 141-pound bout by 8-5 decision while the four-consecutive triumphs was capped by a Joey Bush fall (1:39) at 149. The span began with a Jack DelDuca forfeit win at 125. Troy Seymour sandwiched a Laker win by 3-1 decision at 165 between two losses. The Lakers closed the outing hot, capturing the final three weight classes. Bushey recorded his second fall of the day at 5:30 followed by 197-pound Daniel Smith cruising to a 14-6 major decision. Andrews wrapped the day with an exclamation point and his second victory on Sunday, pinning Scott Schaeffer at 4:33 of the 285-pound class.
 
Oswego returns to the mats at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday when it travels to Rochester, N.Y. to partake in the RIT Invitational.
