PRESS RELEASE
OSWEGO, N.Y. – United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) has announced its NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey All-America Teams, listing Oswego State's
Stephen Johnson on its second team. Johnson, the State University of New York Athletics Conference's (SUNYAC) Defensive Player of the Year, was named an All-American earlier this month as a first team member of the American Hockey Coaches Association's (AHCA) list.
Johnson anchored a Lakers defense that ranked fifth nationwide and yet, did not shy away from offensive action. The senior defender, notched a career-high 30 points – seven goals and 23 assists – in 27 appearances.
The Mississauga, Ont. native led all defenders in the SUNYAC in total points and tied for 10th among all skaters. Nationally, Johnson was fourth in total points, third in total goals and third in power-play goals, among defenders. Johnson also blocked 17 opposing shots, bringing his tally to 39 during his junior and senior seasons.
Overall, Johnson turned in a performance that led the conference in plus/minus with a plus-31. During his career, Johnson posted a plus-72 when on the ice, nine more than any other Laker during that four-year span.
Oswego was one of just 19 schools represented on the USCHO.com All-America teams, and one of only two SUNYAC schools to appear. The Lakers concluded the season with a 21-6-1 overall record, a regular season SUNYAC title and an appearance in the NCAA Championship.
