SUNY SCHOLAR ATHLETE AWARD RECIPIENTSÂ
ALBANY, N.Y. –
Kate Randazzo of the Oswego State women's ice hockey team and
Tim Cronin of the Oswego State baseball team have earned the State University of New York Scholar Athlete Award for 2017-18. The honor recognizes a student-athlete's academic and athletic accomplishments.
Randazzo, who is majoring in biology and minoring in health science, has recorded a 3.95 cumulative GPA at Oswego. The sophomore has racked up academic and athletic accolades during her career. Off the ice, she was named the inaugural Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) Scholar Athlete of the Year, earned the NEWHL Elite Academic Award and received a spot on the American Hockey Coaches Association's Scholar Athlete List. Athletically, Randazzo earned All-NEWHL first team honors this season. The defender's 14 assists and 19 points ranked first on the team among Laker defenders. Randazzo was crucial in helping Oswego to an appearance in the NEWHL Championship Title Game.
Like Randazzo, Cronin has earned numerous academic and athletic awards. The 2017 graduate earned the SUNY Scholar Athlete Award last year as well, and was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Baseball Team during his senior year. The SUNYAC Co-Pitcher of the Year helped the Lakers to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III College World Series.
Randazzo and Cronin were two of 84 student-athletes to earn the honor. The recipients were nominated by their athletic directors and were selected by a panel of athletic directors and members of the provost's office.
"It is my pleasure to congratulate our Scholar Athlete awardees for their achievement in the classroom, and on the playing field," said SUNY Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson. "Whether competing at a Division I or intramural level, all of those honored today are committed to excellence in their athletic pursuits, sportsmanship, and personal development. They balance a challenging workload, while demonstrating leadership and service. Congratulations to all awardees at Oswego."
