Oswego State Athletics

Oswego, N.Y. -- Rashawn Powell of the men's basketball team has been named an Oswego Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 12, 2014. 

In a 2-1 week for the Lakers, Powell was the most consistent and efficient player. The junior scored 48 points and grabbed 31 rebounds to lead Oswego. He also shot 70.0% (21-for-30) from the field as well as a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. 

On Tuesday, Oswego dropped its first conference game of the year 75-69 in overtime at Oneonta despite Powell's 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Lakers got back to their winning ways on Friday with a 74-60 victory over Fredonia behind Powell's 10 points and career-high 14 boards. Powell's double-double against the Blue Devils represented his third-straight game accomplishing the feat. 

The junior finished the week with 19 points and seven caroms in a 84-69 victory over Buffalo State on Saturday. 

Oswego will be back in action at 8 p.m. on Tuesday when New Paltz comes to Max Ziel Gymnasium.
