OSWEGO, N.Y. - Brian Sortino of the men's basketball team has been named the Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending on March 1, 2015
Sortino was a key source of offense for Oswego on its road to becoming eventual SUNYAC Champions. The guard played so well, he also earned Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
In Tuesday's quarterfinal game against Oneonta, the sophomore scored 16 points to lead all Lakers. He also tacked on four assists and three rebounds in his 40 minutes of play. Moving to the semifinal win against Geneseo, Sortino took over, once again leading his team in scoring with 24 points. The Fairport native shot 50% (8-of-16) from the field, including going three from beyond the arc. In the team's 70-58 win over Plattsburgh in the SUNYAC Championship final, Sortino continued to show his offensive skill set, notching 17 points and shooting 62.5% (5-of-8) from the field.
Men’s basketball will return to at 5:30 p.m. on Friday as it squares off against Calvin College in the first round of the Division III NCAA Tournament. This match-up will take place at regional host Mount Union University.
