OSWEGO, N.Y. – Brian Sortino of the men’s basketball team has been named the Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 22, 2015.
Sortino led the Lakers to a championship at the Elmira Tip Off Tournament this past weekend, improving the teams record to a perfect 3-0.
Over the course of the weekend, the junior guard scored 40 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out three assists on his way to being named tournament Most Valuable Player.
In the championship matchup against Morrisville State, the Fairport, N.Y. native notched a season-high 29 points, going 10-of-19 from the field including an impressive 4-8 from beyond the arc. He scored 10 of his 29 in the final 8:50 of the game as the Lakers held on to win the contest by a score of 61-59.
Men’s basketball will face Middlebury at 7 p.m. on Saturday for the first game of the Rochester Tournament.
