OSWEGO, N.Y. – Wyatt Russo of the men’s lacrosse team has been named the Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending May 1, 2016.
Russo was crucial in the Lakers conference win over the Potsdam Bears on Wednesday. In the 10-8 victory, the junior set his own personal record with 19 saves outdoing his counterpart by seven. The goalie saved over 70 percent of the shots he faced in the contest.
This win was especially important as it was the first time since 2012 the Lakers were able to corral the Bears and earn a victory.
In the second game of the week, Russo made his presence felt yet again. Despite taking the loss against the SUNYAC’s three-seeded Plattsburgh Cardinals, the Massapequa Park, N.Y. native set his personal record once more, this time turning aside 20 would-be goals.
In the contest with Plattsburgh, Russo nearly matched his output in the win over the Bears by saving over 66 percent of shots-on-goal. The junior also outdid the Cardinal goalie, who only saved 11 shots.
