Mariah Madrigal of the women’s ice hockey team was named Oswego State Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 20.

Madrigal turned in two incredible performances over the weekend against the three-time defending national champions, No. 1 Plattsburgh.

In the first game, Madrigal tallied 23 saves, but the true story over the weekend was in the second contest, which set the team’s record at 7-1-0 and 5-1-0.

Oswego earned its first victory over Plattsburgh since the women’s ice program re-started in the 2006-07 year. The win broke the Cardinals streak of 13-straight wins and 24-straight home wins and more importantly was anchored by Madrigal.

The junior recorded a career-high 48 saves in the team’s 3-2 win. Madrigal had tallied more than 31 saves only once during her tenure prior to yesterday’s game and it also came against Plattsburgh (in the 2015-16 season).

Women’s ice hockey returns to action at 7 p.m. on Saturday as they travel to Williamstown, Mass. for a weekend set against the Williams College Ephs.
