Joey Davies of the men’s ice hockey team has been named Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 8, 2017.
Davies played a crucial part in Oswego's 4-1 victory over Utica College in the championship game of the 11th Annual PathFinder Bank Oswego State Hockey Classic. The senior recorded three points on the evening, including the game-tying goal, helping him capture most valuable player honors.
Late in the second period of the contest with Oswego trailing 1-0, Davies took the puck from the far side and fired a missile past the goalie's glove side. After the Lakers had rifled off shot after shot to no avail, the goal from the Demorestville, Ont. native sparked the nation's No. 5 team.
Just about seven minutes later, Davies assisted on the game-winning goal by providing a perfect pass to teammate Shawn Hulshof. The senior rounded off his impressive performance with one more assist on Matt Galati's 3-1 insurance tally toward the end of the second period.
Men’s ice hockey returns to action at 7 p.m. on Friday for a road contest against Nazareth College.
