Brian Sortino of the men’s basketball team was named the Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 29.
Sortino turned in a phenomenal weekend, which helped lead to a couple of major conference wins for the Lakers. During Friday’s 78-75 win over Brockport, Sortino led the way for the Lakers scoring 24 points. The senior point guard hit 50.0 percent of his 3-point attempts, going 4-for-8. From the charity stripe, he went 10-for-10 setting a new season-high in free throws made and helping the Lakers with clutch play late.
During Saturday's 81-70 win over Geneseo, the Fairport, N.Y. native notched a season-high 33 points, while also recording his second-career double-double with a season-high 10 rebounds. He was 11-for-18 (61.1%) and 8-for-9 from the charity stripe in the contest.
Oswego's two wins now gives it solo possession of first place in the conference standings.
Men’s basketball returns to the game action at 5:30 p.m. on Friday as they play host to the Potsdam Bears.
