Ben Griffin of the men’s track and field team was named the Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 2.

During Sunday’s meet at Geneseo, the senior ran to the tune of a first-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.54. This time was over a second faster than the next closest runner.

In the 4-by-400 meter relay, Griffin helped his team to another first-place finish. The team completed the event in 3:27.16 with the next team crossing the line almost two seconds later.

Shortly after finishing the 800, the Sterling, N.Y. native also competed in the 1500-meter run finishing in fifth place (4:07.12). Three of the four runners in front of him were from Division I Canisius College.

Men’s track and field will return to action at 10 a.m. on Saturday as the team will travel to Rochester to compete in the Nazareth Rochester City Classic.
