OSWEGO, N.Y – Lauren Fie of the volleyball team has been named an Oswego State Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8. Fie was an offensive juggernaut in a 2-2 week for the Lakers, including two pivotal conference victories at home during SUNYAC Pool Play.
The sophomore had a team-best 36 kills during the four matches and the highest hitting percentage for the Lakers over the week, attacking at an impressive .406 clip.
Fie’s most important outing was a career-high 15 kill performance in a 3-1 victory over Potsdam to open pool play on Friday in Max Ziel Gymnasium. Not only did she lead both teams in kills but also hit 65 points better than any other player (.565) in the match.
On Saturday, Fie had another double-figure kill outing, smacking 10 assists for points while hitting .381 in a 3-1 triumph over Oneonta. Later that day, Oswego feel 3-1 to Fredonia despite the middle blocker’s team-leading eight kills.
Earlier in the week, the Lakers dropped a 3-0 contest at Clarkson University where Fie had three kills.
Fie also added five blocks on the week to go along with six digs.
The Lakers will return to the court at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday when they take part in the SUNY Canton Tri-Match, opening with the host Kangaroos.
