OSWEGO, N.Y. - Daniel Rodriguez of the men’s swimming and diving team has been named the Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 22. Rodriguez was crucial in the team’s pair of wins to open the season.
On Wednesday evening against Rochester Institute of Technology, Rodriguez placed first in two of the three events he swam in, finishing second in the remaining event. The sophomore collected a win with a time of 10:13.06 in the 1000-yard free and earned another victory with a time of 4:58.95 in the 500-yard free. Rodriguez’s performance helped the team secure a 122-119 season-opening win over R.I.T.
During Saturday’s 139-92 victory over Oneonta, the Madrid native took the top spot in the same events. In the men’s 500-yard free Rodriguez finished with a time of 4:58.95, and in the men’s 1000-yard free, Rodriguez notched a time of 10:13.06, 24 seconds ahead of the next closest finisher.
Next, Rodriguez and the Lakers travel to Wells College to compete at 1 p.m. on Oct. 21.
