OSWEGO, N.Y. - Sarah Grupp of the women’s ice hockey team has been named the Oswego State Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Dec 3. Grupp’s three points during the Lakers’ back-to-back victories over Cortland this past weekend helped the team clinch two crucial in-conference wins.
During Friday’s 3-1 defeat of Cortland, Grupp notched her first goal on the season and the first goal of the game just over 3:30 into the second period. The Charlottesville, Va. native would capitalize off a nice feed from Philomena Teggart down the left side of the ice, firing the puck past a sliding Cortland goalie. Grupp would also register a secondary assist on the third goal scored by Oswego in this contest, with just over five minutes remaining in the game on a pass to teammate Kate Randazzo.
On Saturday both teams would face-off once again, this time with Oswego traveling to Cortland, N.Y. for a 2 p.m. puck drop. Just past the 12th minute mark with a 1-0 lead, Grupp collected the primary assist on Emma Morisette's second goal of the season that put the Lakers up 2-0, which was the game’s final score.
Grupp and Oswego hit the ice next against opponent Hamilton College at 7 p.m. on Dec. 8, at the Marano Campus Center Arena, playing for their sixth win of the campaign.
