OSWEGO, N.Y. - Mitch Herlihey of the No. 3/4 men’s ice hockey team has been named the Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Feb. 11. Scoring twice against No. 8/8 Geneseo on Friday, along with the opener against Brockport on Saturday, Herlihey’s play helped Oswego claim victory in both matchups.

On Friday evening Herlihey earned his spot in the Oswego history books while becoming the 56th player in program history with 100 career points, after notching a goal in both the first and third periods. The forward’s empty-netter in the last period of play sealed his entry into Laker history.

Receiving assists from both linemates Josh Zizek and Michael Gillespie, Herlihey’s ice-breaker of a goal 3:28 into the contest against Brockport the following night helped continue their momentum. Oswego never looked back, eventually going up 2-0 thanks to a Herlihey secondary assist before ending with a 4-1 final score. Thanks to his senior leadership on the ice, the Lakers earned both victories on the road against SUNYAC rivals.

The Ottawa, Ont. native and the Lakers play next at 7 p.m. on Feb. 16. In Oswego, N.Y. against the 9-9-5 Potsdam Bears for First Responders Appreciation Night.
