OSWEGO, N.Y. - Tylea McCarthy-Walker of the women’s track and field team has been named the Oswego State Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending on April 15. Recording the fifth-best long jump distance in the nation this season and setting a new program record, the sophomore led the Lakers over the weekend on the road.

The Marion, N.Y. native notched a distance of 5.72 meters on Friday during the Cortland Please Stop Snowing team challenge, setting a new top mark among SUNYAC competitors for this season. McCarthy-Walker placed first in the event and her distance was almost two feet better than the runner-up. Marking a new career-best in the long jump and earning 10 points for the Lakers, this is McCarthy-Walker’s second Athlete of the Week award of the spring semester.

The sophomore and Oswego return to Cortland, N.Y. for the Cortland Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
