OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Athletics Department has released their November Athletes of The Month sponsored by Oswego Health this afternoon. Freshman Goaltender Cal Schell of the Men’s Ice Hockey team and Junior Guard Karleigh Leo of the Women’s Basketball team have been selected for their outstanding achievements in the month of November.

Karleigh Leo had a wonderful November month as she has proved to be a force to the league and the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball fleet.

Leo led the Lakers to a 7-0 start, the longest winning-streak of the Oswego State Women’s Basketball team since the 2006-07 season. 

The Lakers started their regular season against the Hilbert College Hawks on November 8th, Leo dropped 20 points in thirty minutes. The Liverpool native went 4-9 from three-point range, 2-2 from the free throw line, had four rebounds and two assists. 

In the Lakers’ second contest, Leo had 23 points in their victory over Keystone to bring them to their home Max Ziel Tournament Championship game. In 42 minutes, the Junior hit five three-pointers, had twelve rebounds, six assists, one block and a steal. 

The Lakers moved to 3-0 after a buzzer-beating effort by the Lakers to defeat the SUNY POLY Wildcats. Leo again led the Lakers with 17 points. Hitting again FIVE three-point field goals on the night. Shooting just under 50% from the field, Leo also added a steal, one rebound and an assist in the contest to win the 2022 Max Ziel Women’s Basketball Tournament Championship. Leo was named the Tournament MVP for the Lakers. 

Oswego moved to 4-0 after a victory over the Wells Express  

On the road again, facing the Broncos of SUNY-Delhi, Leo continued to show her force on offense showing off her ability to dish the ball as well, Leo had nine rebounds, four assists, three steals and collected 15 points on the night. 

After showing off her play-making abilities against the Broncos, Leo was back on track in the scoring category against another non-conference team in the Alfred University Saxons. Leo again led the Green and Gold in points with 19. Hitting five three-pointers for the third game of the season and going 4-4 from the free throw line. The junior also added five assists and four rebounds in the contest. 

In the Lakers’ final contest of the month and first conference game, the Green and Gold defeated the Fredonia Blue Devils by a score of 76-66 to bring their win streak to eight games. For the seventh game of the season, Leo led the Lakers in points with 23 coming from four three-pointers, five of six from the free throw line and had a total of seven field goals in the contest. 

Karleigh Leo currently leads the Lakers in minutes played (273), average minutes played (34.1), field goals made (50), field goal attempts (143), three-point field goals (34), three-point attempts (143), free-throw percentage (83.3%), points (149) and points per game average (18.6).

In the SUNYAC, Leo leads in minutes, field goals, three-pointers made by 13, points by 21 and is third in free-throw percentage.
