Newman becomes the 18th wrestler inducted into the Hall of Fame, predicated on a brilliant senior season. During the 1983 campaign, the 177-pounder earned a spot at the NCAA Championships. By the end of the national tournament, Newman finished in eighth place to garner All-America status. That same year, Newman placed in the top five of both the state and conference tournaments. He was named All-SUNYAC for his second-place effort at the championship before taking fourth at the New York State Collegiate Championships.
