OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team remained perfect on the season with a 4-1 win over Wells College on Monday afternoon at Laker Turf Stadium. Oswego improves to 3-0 overall with the victory while the Express fall to 1-5.
Despite Wells scoring the contest's first goal, Oswego notched four unanswered tallies over the final 48:22, cruising to the win.
Kendra Walker tied the game at 1-1 with a goal off a deflected
Julia Calandra shot at 28:49. Less than four minutes later,
Katie Reynolds found the back of the net for the second time this year. The sophomore's eventual game-winner came on a great find from
Lacey Woite, as Reynolds spun in front of the goalie and beat the keeper to her left.
Oswego took the 2-1 edge into the locker room and added two more in the second stanza. Reynolds was key in both second-half scores, assisting on each to close a four-point day. The first came on a beautiful backhanded shot attempt that was deflected and sent home by
Grace Rinaldi for her team-leading third goal of the campaign. A little more than a minute later, Reynolds was the last distributor off a four-pass, penalty-corner play that ended with a
Jordan Sheehy tip-in tally, her first of 2016.
Junior
Sarita Charap was a wall in net for the Lakers, making five saves in 60:28 of action to earn her third triumph of the year. Charap was relieved by freshman goalie
Mary Mattice for the game's final 9:32.
The Lakers will return to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when they take their first road trip of the year to Elmira College for a nonconference tilt.
