Lakers Score in Droves and Shut Out Wells

AURORA, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team notched seven first-quarter goals en route to a win over the Wells College Express. Nine different Lakers recorded at least one point in the shutout.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Oswego 12, Wells 0
  • Location: Wells College Turf Field – Aurora, N.Y.
  • Records: Oswego 2-1 | Wells 0-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Just 49 seconds into the game, Annie O'Neill put the Lakers on the board with her team-leading fourth goal of the season off a pass from Kathleen Little. That tally proved to be the game-winner.
  • The two also connected again for Oswego's second goal.
  • The Lakers scored five additional times in the first quarter within a nine-minute span. Oswego's spurt was highlighted by Leah Romanowski's two goals and Jenna Rogers' goal and assist.
  • Jessie Burggraf, Emily Jeran, Julia Heacock, Kaitlyn Mastracco and Leah Romanowski each recorded their first-collegiate goals in the contest.
  • The Lakers assisted on nine of their 12 goals, led by Kiersten Walker's four and Little's three. Rogers and Sophia Cardinale recorded the other two Laker assists with one apiece.
  • Oswego's defense held strong in the first half, leaving Wells College without a single shot, protecting goalie Erica Scheblein.
  • In her first appearance of the season, Joanna Christman made four saves, all in the second half.
  • Oswego outshot Wells in on-goal opportunities by more than triple (15-4).
