Lakers Stamp Themselves Into Program History

OSWEGO, N.Y. – As far as records show, Oswego State Field Hockey has never began a season with three consecutive shutouts. Along with shutouts, the Lakers tie their program record in margin of victory (12). They defeated the Express of Wells College by a score of 12-0. Kaitlyn Mastracco led the charge with two goals, an assist and five shots on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lakers continued their offensive tear and shut-down defense against the Express of Wells College.
  • Mastracco netted the first shot on goal for the Lakers, less than a minute into the contest. This goal came on a penalty shot.
  • Kacie Simzer put one past the Express goalie at the 4:44 mark of the first quarter to gain the 2-0 lead.
  • After multiple attempts from the 4:44-10:24 mark of the first quarter, Oswego scored three goals within three minutes.
  • The third goal coming from Junior Annie O'neill, assisted by Kaitlyn Ahle.
  • Within 50 seconds Ahle put one of her own in the net, the goal was assisted by Mastracco.
  • Mastracco followed her fellow teammate Ahle, after adding her assist, putting home the Lakers fifth goal of the game.
  • O'neill added her second and final Oswego goal of the first quarter just twelve seconds before the horn.
  • Alyssa DeMichael mimicked the first quarter start for the Lakers, scoring just 56 seconds into the second quarter, the goal was assisted by Jenna Rogers.
  • Oswego's eighth and ninth goals were scored only 30 seconds apart, Megan Delaney scoring her first goal of the season for the eighth and Ellie Kazel notching her second goal of the season for the ninth.  
  • Again, with many shots on goal and many opportunities, the Wells College goalie kept the Lakers off the board for eight consecutive minutes of the second quarter, until Julia Heacock scored on a penalty shot to give her team a lead of 10.
  •  The final two goals of the Lakers dominant performance came in the third quarter, the eleventh goal scored by Sophomore Abigail Redmond, the twelfth goal was netted by Nancy Pagliaroli and assisted by Simzer.  
  • In their first three games, Oswego has only let up an average of 2.3 shots per game, along with their own shots on goal percentage of 67.2%.
  • With an impressive 8.0 goals per game average, their offense proves to be as impressive as their defense. Holding their opponents to zero goals in their first three contests.
  • Oswego has a 66% efficiency rate on penalty shots thus far in the 2021 campaign.
  • 23 Mastracco and 24 Simzer share the top spot for points on the team (9), both with an impressive four goals and one assist.
