OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Field Hockey team defeated the Highlanders of Houghton University tonight by a score of 5-0. Senior goalie Erica Scheblein held the Houghton offense scoreless, recording the Lakers' second-consecutive shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Oswego's offense got started early, putting up four shots in the first six minutes of the game.

At the 6:35 mark in the game, senior Megan Delaney got the Lakers on the board for her third goal of the season, making it 1-0.

Eight minutes into the second half the Lakers took a 2-0 lead after Delaney set up teammate Molly Darcy for her first goal of the new campaign.

Houghton applied offensive pressure towards the end of the second quarter but Scheblein denied the chances, tallying four saves in a row to end the half.

The third quarter was relatively quiet for both sides, both teams exchanged penalty corners in the early part of the stanza.

Newcomer Taylin Bauer broke the silence by scoring her first collegiate goal at the 42:30 mark in the game to make it 3-0.

One minute into the fourth quarter, Kaitlyn Ahle joined in on the scoring, extending the Laker lead to four off an assist from Delaney.

Then again with about one minute remaining in the contest, senior Kaitlyn Mastracco tallied Oswego's fifth and final goal after being set up by teammate sophomore Kate McNally

The Laker offense recorded 22 shots in total, with 13 of those being shots-on-goal.

Scheblein ended the contest with eight saves and recorded her first shutout of the season.

Oswego State will stay on the shores of Lake Ontario to host Keuka College on Friday, September 9 for a 4:00 PM non-conference matchup.
