Softball Drops Two Games in Florida

CLERMONT, FL – The Oswego State Softball team continued their Florida trip play this evening with another double header. The ladies dropped both games this afternoon, falling to Marywood in game one, losing to Western New England University in game two. Fiona Higgins continued her impressive stretch on the mound, snatching nine strikeouts total on the afternoon.

Final Score: Oswego State 2, Marywood 7 ; Oswego State 2, Western New England 10

Location:  Clermont, Florida

Records:  Oswego State 2-2, Marywood 2-0, Western New England 5-1 

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1

  • The Lakers went toe to toe with Marywood through the first three innings, with neither team being able to get to home plate.

  • Marywood was able to break the scoring drought in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring five runs in the inning. 

  • The Pacers added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving them a seven point lead. 

  • The Lakers showed life in the top of the seventh inning, scoring two runs before their comeback fell short. 

  • Marywood held on to take the 7-2 victory over the Lakers. Fiona Higgins recorded eight strikeouts on the mound in the matchup. 

GAME 2

  • The Golden Bears jumped out to a commanding five point lead in the first two innings of play. 

  • Western New England extended their lead to seven following a three run inning in the top of the fourth. 

  • The Lakers brought in a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, cutting into their deficit. The Lakers trailed by seven going into the fifth inning. 

  • Oswego would add another run in the bottom of the sixth, and would trail 8-2 going into the seventh inning. 

  • The Golden Bears added another pair of runs in the top of the seventh, giving them an eight point lead over the Lakers. 

  • The Lakers were unable to rally in the bottom of the seventh, and would fall to the Bears by a score of 10-2. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Oswego State will have another double header on Tuesday, March 14th where they will take on the University of Minnesota Morris and Ripon College. Game one is set for 2pm, with game two set for 4:30pm.
