OSWEGO, N.Y. — SUNY Oswego Athletics has announced its Athletes of the Month for September, presented by Russo Produce, recognizing senior cross country standout
Kyra Pellegrino and senior men's golfer
Tyce Helmick for their outstanding performances throughout the month.
Pellegrino, a senior from Rochester, N.Y., put together a dominant September for the Oswego women's cross-country team, recording three top six finishes in three races. Pellegrino opened the month with an individual victory at the SUNY Oswego Invitational, winning the women's 4K in 15:24.5. She followed that performance with another first-place finish at the Le Moyne Frank Dillon Memorial Cross Country Invitational, crossing the line in 15:10.2 in the women's 4K. At the RPI Fairgrounds Showdown, Pellegrino finished sixth overall in the women's 6K with a time of 21:30.4, setting a new Oswego program record in the process. Her performances earned her SUNYAC Women's
Cross Country Runner of the Week honors twice during the month.
Helmick, a senior from Ontario, Ore., also enjoyed a strong September on the course, highlighted by an individual tournament victory at the Oswego State Fall Invite. Helmick finished first at the Oswego State Fall Invite, shooting even par over two rounds. He also recorded three additional top 25 finishes during the month, placing 24th at The Gauntlet, tied for 12th at Clarkson, and tied for 19th at St. Lawrence. At The Gauntlet, Helmick carded seven birdies and finished the tournament at +7. He added a birdie in his tied-for-12th performance at Clarkson and two more birdies at St. Lawrence. Helmick's September performances earned him Empire 8 Co-Athlete of the Week honors.
