Lakers Drop First Games of the Season at Fredonia

Fredonia, NY - The Lakers kicked off their weekend road trip out west with a double header versus the Fredonia Blue Devils. Despite hard fought games from Oswego, Fredonia took both games on the day to spoil the record 12 game Laker winning streak.

GAME 1:
BASICS

Oswego 1 (12-1, 6-1 SUNYAC)
Fredonia 3 (7-18, 2-5 SUNYAC)
Blue Devil Field | Fredonia, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED
Fredonia drew first blood in the bottom in the second. It was a throwing error on a Blue Devil steal sending Chloe Whittingham home. Fredonia led,1-0.

Alexa Bogad extended the Blue Devil lead with a RBI single in the bottom of the third. Kaya Lynn scored with good baserunning and added another run for Fredonia. Avery Hill would then single down the first base line and Bogad got on her horse to score the Blue Devils second run of the inning.

In the top of the fourth, the Lakers rallied together to show some life. Delaney Wiley and Ryin Perico both singled. With runners in scoring position, Emma Budzinski grounded out but scored Wiley, to make the score 3-1 still in favor of Fredonia.

Oswego continued to play good defense and Alyssa Budzinski pitched extremely well down the stretch of the game. She tallied 8 total strikeouts on the game and 5 of them came in the last 3 innings. Just as good as Oswego's defense was, Fredonia's was. Neither team could string together hits to score another run. Fredonia walked away from game one victorious with a score of 3-1.

WIN - Kendal Phillips (5-7)
LOSS - Alyssa Budzinski  (8-1)

GAME 2:
BASICS

Oswego 3 (12-2, 6-2 SUNYAC)
Fredonia 5 (8-18, 3-5 SUNYAC)
Blue Devil Field | Fredonia, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers got on the board first in game two. It started with a Kira Wright triple into the left center gap. It was then an Emma Budzinski sac fly to send in the first run of the game.

Fredonia battled back in the bottom of the first. Avery Hill kicked it off with a two RBI single to take the lead back. Chloe Whittingham then came in with a single of her own scoring Hill. The Blue Devils now led 3-1.

Lillian Haggerty got some back in the top of the second with a sac fly. Haggerty scored Mackenzie Carlson after her inning-opening double.

The Lakers gave up a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the second. The Blue Devils now had a commanding, 5-2 lead.

Oswego got a run back in a big way from Mackenzie Carlson. She sent a long one over the left field fence. It was Carlson's first homerun of the season and the Lakers only faced a two run deficit now.

The Lakers weren't able to complete the comeback despite a Kira Wright single in the top of the seventh and the Blue Devils swept the double header.

WIN - Sabrina Edwards-Smith (1-6)
LOSS - Chloe Cunningham (3-1)
SAVE - Cayzlee Johnson (3)
