How it Happened
The Lakers fell behind late in the first quarter when Lauren Thurber scored for Houghton at 11:37 for a 1-0 Houghton lead.
Sam Krautheim made a save during Houghton's pressure, while
Hannah Pawlowski recorded SUNY Oswego's shot, a wide attempt at 7:11, before the quarter ended with the Lakers trailing 1-0.
Krautheim made three saves in the second quarter as the Lakers kept Houghton off the board despite three penalty corners. SUNY Oswego generated two shots in the quarter, including
Sophia Prianti's attempt saved by Amber Cribbs at 29:11. The scoreless quarter left the Lakers trailing 1-0 at halftime.
Houghton scored at 33:47, with Courtney Walbridge finishing off an unusual assist from Kylee Barshinger to put the Lakers behind 2-0. SUNY Oswego did not record a shot or penalty corner in the third quarter, while Houghton added a late corner and had Barshinger's shot blocked before the game moved to the fourth quarter at 2-0.
The Lakers pressed early in the fourth quarter, putting shots from
Natalie Shields and Pawlowski on goal in a seven-second span, but Amber Cribbs saved both. The Lakers also earned two penalty corners and had attempts from
Harlie Giliberti and Meg Filippone-Kuebler blocked. Krautheim made a save on Courtney Walbridge at 55:25, and the scoreless quarter closed Houghton's 2-0 win.
