General Insurance Information

This information clarifies the standards student-athletes must meet before participating in intercollegiate athletics at SUNY Oswego. While SUNY Oswego does not require domestic students to show proof of health insurance, it is still mandatory for all intercollegiate student-athletes. 

  • All student-athletes must provide proof of primary medical insurance before being permitted to practice and/or compete and must maintain their coverage throughout the academic year. 

  • International student-athletes are required to enroll in the State University of New York Medical Insurance Plan. For specific updates, please refer to International Student and Scholar Services and SUNY's policy. 

  • Any insurance plan must cover intercollegiate athletics participation and provide coverage up to $90,000. 

  • SUNY Oswego does not provide secondary insurance.

NCAA DIII Post-Eligibility Insurance Policy
 
In the event of a catastrophic injury, the NCAA provides coverage that supplements all insurance policies. The NCAA program takes over at $90,000 and has an upper limit of $20,000,000. Post-eligibility coverage is available through the NCAA process.
