Men's Ice Hockey Volunteer Assistant Coach

Frank Colabufo joins the Oswego State men’s ice hockey coaching staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2026-27 season. A three-time state champion and member of multiple Halls of Fame, Colabufo arrives at Oswego with a reputation as a respected player development coach and program builder.

Colabufo brings 32-years of head coaching experience at West Genesee High School in Camillus, New York, where he established a perennial state contender. Taking over the Wildcats program in 1994, Colabufo amassed a career record of 552-176-49. Under his guidance, West Genesee captured 16 League Championships, 16 Sectional Titles, and made 11 New York State Frozen Four appearances. He guided the Wildcats to three state championships, hoisting the crown in 2001, 2010, and most recently in 2023.

His high school coaching resume has earned him national and regional recognition. In 2024, Colabufo was named the NFHS National Hockey Coach of the Year and was inducted into the New York State Hockey Hall of Fame. Most recently in 2026, he was honored by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) with the prestigious John Mariucci Award—given to a secondary school coach who has best exemplified the spirit, dedication, and enthusiasm of the legendary coach. That same year, he was inducted into the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame, following a 2017 induction into the Town of Camillus/West Genesee Sports Hall of Fame.

With 552 career victories and a proven track record of deep postseason runs, Colabufo understands what it takes to build and maintain a championship standard over decades. His experience in high-stakes postseason hockey translates to the standard expected in the SUNYAC and NCAA tournaments.

A USA Hockey Level 5 certified coach, Colabufo has spent decades as a USA Hockey Coaching Education Program instructor. His work as Director of the West Genesee Summer Hockey Camp and skills coach for Salt City Prospects, makes him an exceptional asset for individual player development and tactical breakdown.

In addition to his coaching career, Colabufo spent over three decades as a dedicated special education teacher at West Genesee High School. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in English from Le Moyne College and earned his Master's Degree in Special Education from Syracuse University. Frank and his wife, Ann, are the proud parents of five children: Nathan, Meghan, Sammy, Daniel, and Julia.
