Heading into the 2024-25 season, Assistant Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Wendy McManus has announced two new faculty members to SUNY Oswego's Faculty Athletics Representatives program, Robert Auler and Katie Fisher.
A FAR is a member of the faculty at an NCAA member institution who has been designated to serve as a liaison between the institution and the athletics department, and also as a representative of the institution in conference and NCAA affairs. The role of the FAR is to ensure that the academic institution establishes and maintains the appropriate balance between academics and intercollegiate athletics. "Faculty like Rob and Katie ensure a balance between academic excellence and athletic achievement," said Wendy McManus. "They will help us connect education with athletics, exemplifying the essential role of the FAR in promoting a culture of integrity, scholarship, and success within our athletic community".

Katie Fisher is an Assistant Professor of Microbial Ecology in the Department of Biological Sciences at SUNY Oswego. Her research focuses on the evolution and ecology of yeasts. Fisher joined the faculty at Oswego in 2022, after earning her PhD at Lehigh University and completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.Â

"As a former student-athlete, I understand the important balance of athletics and academics," said Kaitlin Fisher. "I am excited to contribute to the development of student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field this season."

She completed her Bachelor's degree at Long Island University-Post (then C.W. Post), where she played four years of softball for the Pioneers.Â
