Sophia Ruh joins the Oswego State Field Hockey coaching staff after completing an outstanding four-year field hockey career at the University of New Haven. A versatile midfielder and defender, she appeared in 77 career games, making 72 starts while helping the Chargers compete in the Northeast-10 Conference.
As a senior in 2024, Sophia started all 19 games and recorded a career-high in games played and starts. She contributed offensively with one goal and two assists while serving as a consistent presence on both ends of the field. During her junior season in 2023, she started all 18 contests, finishing with one goal and three assists, ranking among the team leaders in assists. In 2022, she started all 20 games as a key member of the Chargers' midfield and defensive units, scoring goals against nationally ranked opponents Assumption and Adelphi. As a freshman in 2021, she appeared in all 20 games and earned 15 starts, immediately establishing herself as an important contributor.
In addition to her success on the field, Ruh excelled in the classroom. She was a three-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II National Academic Squad selection and earned NFHCA Scholar of Distinction honors multiple times for maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher. She was also a consistent member of the Northeast-10 Academic Honor Roll and the University of New Haven Dean’s List throughout her collegiate career.
Prior to New Haven, Ruh was a standout student-athlete at Ocean City High School, where she served as team captain and earned multiple All-Cape Atlantic League First Team selections. She helped lead the Red Raiders to multiple conference championships, including the Cape Atlantic League title in each of her varsity seasons, as well as South Jersey Group 3 and South East Group A championships. She was also recognized as an NFHCA Impact Player and received numerous honors from The Press of Atlantic City.
Sophia graduated from the University of New Haven with a degree in Marine Biology and brings a strong commitment to player development, academic excellence, and competitive success to the program.
