Daniel Rodriguez of the men’s swimming and diving team was named the Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 30.

The freshman, competing in his third-career meet, broke the school record in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:54.07. He dominated the field, winning the event by a stellar 2 minutes and 25 seconds and downed the previous record held by Jason Cotter by over five seconds.

Rodriguez also finished first in the 200-yard backstroke with the final time of 2:12.65. This was the first time that he participated in the event.

The Madrid, Spain native, swam in the 400-yard freestyle relay where he had the second-fastest split time of 52.37.

Men’s swimming and diving returns to the pool at 1 p.m. on Saturday as they host the Clarkson Golden Knights at Laker Pool.
