Lakers fall to Buffalo State 3-2

The Oswego State women's soccer team battled back from a two-goal deficit only to allow the winning goal with less than 10 minutes remaining as Buffalo State earned a 3-2 SUNY Athletic Conference victory over the Lakers on Friday, Oct. 1, at the South Athletic Complex.

Trailing 2-0 at the half, Oswego State (2-5-1, 1-3 SUNYAC) tied the game as junior Maureen Kasperek (Fulton) netted a pair of goals in a 15-minute span. The first one was assisted by Ashley-Anne Maltagliati (East Islip) with Morgan Vrydaghs (Campbell Hall) setting up the second. The two goals give Kasperek a team-high six on the season and 50 in her career.

Buffalo State (5-4-1, 2-2 SUNYAC) regained the lead with 9:10 remaining as Gina Monaco (Niagara Falls) completed the hat trick scoring on a breakaway. Madeline Morosey (North Collins) set up the play chipping a pass to Monaco through the Laker defense.

Monaco gave the Bengals a 2-0 lead at the half with a pair of goals. Missy Balling (Tonawanda) assisted on the first goal and Morosey the second.

Oswego State goalie Ashlee Distin (Fulton) finished the game with eight saves, while Buffalo State's Katie Melsert (Burnt Hills) finished with nine.

The Lakers will be home again tomorrow taking on conference opponent Fredonia State at 1 p.m.
