Laker top Bears; Kasperek sets goal record

Junior Maureen Kasperek (Fulton) netted a hat trick as the Oswego State women's soccer team shut out visiting Potsdam by the score of 5-0 on Friday at the South Athletic Complex. In the process, Kasperek became the school's all-time leading goal scorer as the forward now has 56 goals breaking the old mark of 54 held by Missy Verdoliva.

Kasperek opened the scoring 7:18 into the game heading in a corner kick by Ashley-Anne Maltagliati (East Islip) as she tied the record.

After Ariana Cuadrado (Holley) netted a pair of goals, Kasperek became the most prolific goal scorer in Laker history scoring on a feed from Lynn Halloran (Ellicottville). Kasperek capped the scoring at the 30:46 mark of the opening period completing the hat trick.

With the big game, Kasperek now has 12 goals and three assists on the year for a team-high 27 points. She now trails Verdoliva as the all-time leading scorer by two points as the current Laker has 124 points.

Oswego State goalie Ashlee Distin (Fulton) needed to make only one save to earn her fourth shutout of the season.

Potsdam goalie Jordan Havens (Ogdensburg) finished with 12 saves.

The Lakers will be right back on the field Oct. 16 hosting Plattsburgh at 1 p.m.
