Lakers double up Cortland 2-1

Maureen Kasperek (Fulton) netted a pair of goals providing Oswego State with all of the offense it would need as the Lakers held off visiting Cortland 2-1 on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the South Athletic Complex.

With those two goals, Kasperek becomes the school's all-time leading scorer with 128 points on 58 goals and 12 assists. The junior passed for Oswego State standout Missy Verdoliva, who finished her career with 126 points.

Kasperek opened the scoring less than five minutes into the second half on a shot from the far side of the penalty area that found the upper corner on the near side.

The forward then made at 2-0 in the 61st minute taking advantage of a loose ball making her the all-time leader in points.

Cortland pressed the Lakes in the latter stages of the game and finally solved the Oswego State defense when Andrea Marino (Utica) scored with 2:53 left in regulation.

Freshman Ashlee Distin (Fulton) earned the win in goal for the Lakers as she finished with three saves.

Keeper Christa Windhorst (Lancaster) had five saves for the Red Dragons.

The win put Oswego State at 4-5-1 in SUNY Athletic Conference play leaving them an outside shot at making the conference tournament with some help. The Lakers are 6-8-2 overall. The loss knocked the Red Dragons to 7-8-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the conference.

The Lakers round out the regular season with a pair of non-conference road games. Oswego State visits Hamilton College on Oct. 27 and at St. Lawrence on Oct. 30.
