Second half leads Lakers past Geneseo

The Oswego State men's basketball team opened the home part of the new season in impressive fashion using a strong second half to defeat Geneseo by the score of 76-54.

The Laker men outscored Geneseo 44-26 in the second half breaking open a tight game that saw six ties in the opening 20 minutes of play. Oswego State carried the momentum into the break as Ahmad Mims (Syracuse) nailed a 3-pointer just before the horn sounded putting the hosts up by four points.

Oswego State then used a 23-9 run in the first nine minutes of the second half to gain control.
The Lakers are now 3-0 on the season and are 1-0 in the SUNY Athletic Conference. The Blue Knights are now 1-2 and 0-1 in the conference.

Nicholas Perioli (Liverpool) paced the Lakers with 20 points and Mat Burridge (Hannibal) had a solid game with 12 points and eight rebounds. Ben Oliver (Batavia) contributed with 11 points and Dave Ponza (Solvay) added seven points and 10 rebounds.

Joe Zera (Buffalo) topped all scorers as the Geneseo guard poured in 23 points. Tarik Kitson (New York) had a team-high 10 rebounds and added seven points.

Oswego State's game will be against Cazenovia College at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, in Laker Hall.
