The Oswego State men's basketball team capped the first semester by winning the Joe King Tournament hosted by Nazareth College this past weekend to improve to 8-0 on the season.
A pair of local products in the tournament led the Lakers as Dave Ponza (Solvay) was named Most Valuable Player and Ahmad Mims (North Syracuse) was selected to the all tournament team.
Ponza opened the tournament with 16 points and seven rebounds in an 84-71 win over Nazareth. He connected on six of his eight shots from the floor. In the title game, a 68-64 win against RIT, he senior added 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting and two rebounds.
Mims had a big game against Nazareth with 24 points and five rebounds. He hit on 9-of-13 attempts from the floor including three of his four shots from behind the 3-point arc. Versus RIT, the junior contributed with 14 points and eight rebounds.
