Senior
Jean-Simon Richard (Lorraine, QUE) scored with 1:40 remaining in regulation as the eighth-ranked Oswego State hockey team rallied past visiting Plattsburgh by the score of 3-2 on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Romney Field House. The win also extended the team's winning streak to four games.
Oswego State trailed 2-1 heading into the third, but junior
Jocelyn Dubord (LeChanie, QUE) knotted the game at two netting his team-leading 17th goal of the season at the 11:59 mark of the period.
As the game appeared to be heading to overtime, Richard potted the game-winner later in the period when he collected the puck by the far post and lifted it over Cardinal goalie Craig Neilson (Markham, ONT). The game-winning goal came while the Lakers were on the power play and was his 10th of the season.
The Cardinals then pulled Neilson for the final 1:30 and nearly tied the game seconds later as Paul Kelly (Peabody, MA) rang a shot off the post. Oswego State, however, was able to hold onto the win clearing the zone one final time in the closing seconds.
Laker goalie
Ryan Scott (Williamsville) made 32 saves to collect his eighth win of the season. Neilson finished with 25 saves for the Cardinals.
After a scoreless first period, the Lakers opened the scoring on the power play when
Paul Perrier (Aurora, ONT) knocked in a rebound. That lead was short lived as Plattsburgh won the ensuing face-off and scored 12 seconds later as Kelly notched his 16th of the year.
The Cardinals carried a 2-1 lead into the second intermission as Ryan Busby (Georgetown, ONT) recorded his 10th of the year.
The win keeps the Lakers in the hunt for the SUNY Athletic Conference title, as they move to 8-2 in conference play. Overall, Oswego State is 15-3-3. The loss knocked the Cardinals to 4-6 in the SUNYAC and 11-10 overall.
The Lakers will play their final two road games of the season next weekend, heading to Brockport on Friday, Feb. 4, and Geneseo on Saturday, Feb. 5.
