Lakers crown Golden Knights 74-52

The Oswego State men's basketball team opened the new year with a win as the Lakers remained undefeated as they coasted past visiting Clarkson 74-52 on Thursday, Jan. 6, at Laker Hall.

The Lakers, who never trailed in the game, are now 9-0 on the season, while the Golden Knights fell to 4-7.

Oswego State also raised $345.75 for the American Red Cross Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund as they took donations in lieu of an admission charge.

Making his first start of the season, sophomore guard Todd Franze (Westfield) had a big game for the hosts scoring a team-high 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting. He also dished out three assists and grabbed three rebounds.

Senior Dave Ponza (Solvay) chipped in with 14 points and four rebounds, while Nicholas Perioli (Liverpool) had nine points and five assists.

Russ Vitallo (Dracut, MA) paced Clarkson with 14 points, while Jon Youngmann (Corinth) had nine.
The Lakers will be right back on the court Friday, hosting St. Lawrence at Laker Hall in an 8 p.m. start. Again, donations for the relief effort in Asia will be accepted.
