The Oswego State women's basketball team advanced to the SUNY Athletic Conference Tournament Finals for the first time in program history as the Lakers used a strong second half to get past Oneonta 72-53 on Friday, Feb. 25, at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
Top-seeded Oswego State will look to earn its first bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday taking on second-seeded Brockport at 1 p.m. The winner of that game will receive an automatic bid to the tournament.
In the semis, the Lakers held a 28-24 lead over the fourth-seeded Red Dragons (18-9) before outscoring Oneonta 44-29 over the final four minutes.
Oswego State (24-2) had four players score in double figures led by
Samantha Driscoll (Lisle), who finished with 16 points.
Kelly Mraz (Johnstown) had her second straight strong game in the tournament with 15 points and seven assists.
Sarah Lombard (Saratoga Springs) chipped in with 14 points, while
Sally Shuster (East Amherst) added 12. All of Shuster's points came from behind the 3-point arc as the senior sank 4-of-8 from long range.
