The Oswego State men's basketball took its only lead of the game with 1.2 seconds remaining as the Lakers rallied for an 81-80 victory over visiting Brockport on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Laker Hall.
With Brockport holding an 80-78 lead in the closing seconds, Nicholas Perioli (Liverpool) missed a jumper from the lane, but an offensive rebound with three seconds left gave the Lakers another shot.
Ahmad Mims (North Syracuse) took the ball out from underneath the basket and sent a short pass to
Ben Oliver (Batavia). Oliver not only made the bucket but also was fouled with 1.2 seconds remaining. He then sank the free throw giving the hosts an 81-80 lead.
Brockport's final bid was denied as Oswego State intercepted the inbound pass.
The Lakers trailed by as many as 14 points in the opening half before completing the rally.
Dave Ponza (Solvay) led all scorers with 24 points as the Oswego State senior made 12-of-17 shots from the floor. Perioli and
Jake Constance (Red Creek) each added 13 points for the Lakers, while
Mat Burridge (Hannibal) chipped in with 12.
For Brockport, Bryan Boswell (Amherst) and Kellan Skrine (Henrietta) each scored 16 points with Ben Bellucci (Syracuse) adding 12.
The win puts the Lakers at 17-3 on the season and 8-3 in the SUNY Athletic Conference. The Golden Eagles fell to 13-6 and 7-4 in the conference.
