Lakers' strong start is erased by Plattsburgh

The Oswego State women's soccer team lost 5-1 to Plattsburgh on Friday at Laker Field.

The Lakers opened the scoring just 6:57 into the match when Kelly Spagnoli sent a pass forward for Julie McCloskey, who slotted a low shot into the corner of the net to give Oswego State a 1-0 lead.

Plattsburgh didn't take long to tie the match, as Kristen Lavigne scored two and a half minutes later. Lavigne added her second goal of the match in the 23rd minute and that put the Cardinals in front for good. Deanna Cipoletti also scored twice for Plattsburgh and Jamie Ott finished off the scoring in the 68th minute.

Oswego State goalie Melissa Hacknauer had four saves and Kathryn Lind made five saves for Plattsburgh.

The Lakers fell to 1-12-0 overall and 1-7-0 in the SUNYAC. Plattsburgh picked up its second conference win and is now 2-5-1 in the SUNYAC and 7-5-2 overall. Oswego State hosts Potsdam at 1 p.m. Saturday.
