The Oswego State men's ice hockey team remained unbeaten on the season with an 8-1 win at Potsdam on Friday night.
The Lakers scored two goals in the first two minutes of the game to build an early lead. Brendan McLaughlin opened the scoring just 1:13 into the contest and Garren Reisweber scored 25 seconds later to put Oswego State ahead 2-0. Potsdam's Pat Lemay scored a power-play goal to reduce the deficit to one, but Oswego State rattled off six straight goals to close the contest.
C.J. Thompson scored late in the first period to put Oswego State ahead 3-1.
McLaughlin and Ryan Ellis scored power-play goals early in the second period that chased Potsdam goalie Vince Cuccaro from the net.
Neil Musselwhite, Rich Zalewski, and Matt Whitehead rounded out the scoring for the Lakers. Ryan Scott made 14 saves. Peter Magagna had four assists for the Lakers, as the sophomore line of Ellis, McLaughlin, and Magagna combined for 12 points in the game. Oswego State was 3-for-9 on the power play and outshot Potsdam 41-15.
The Lakers, now 9-0-2 on the year and 5-0-1 in the SUNYAC, will play at Plattsburgh on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
