Defensive effort leads to men's hoop win

Holding SUNYIT nearly 40 points under their season average was the key to success for the Oswego State men's basketball team, as the Lakers scored an 85-57 win over the visiting Wildcats on Saturday night.

SUNYIT came into the contest averaging 95.2 points per game through its first five contests, and scored just 23 points in the first half as Oswego State built a 21-point lead at the intermission.

Senior Erik Roberson had 22 points and made four 3-pointers to lead the Laekrs. Mat Burridge had 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Todd Franze had 15 points and seven assists. Kyle Reuter also scored in double figures with 11 points.

The Lakers held SUNYIT to 33 percent shooting in the game, but Antoine Gilkes scored 25 points for the Wildcats to lead all scorers. Chris Reaves had 10 points.

Oswego State is now 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in the SUNYAC. SUNYIT is 4-2 overall and also 1-1 in conference play.

The Lakers are back in action Tuesday at Nazareth.
