Women's Ice Hockey Erin Pollina for Oswego State Sports Information

No. 5 Elmira skates past Lakers

The Oswego State women's ice hockey team was defeated 4-2 by the Elmira Soaring Eagles Saturday at the Campus Center Arena.

The Eagles had a quick start, scoring three goals in the first period, including a power-play goal by Jenna McCall. Victoria MacNeil and Carly Richardson also scored for Elmira.

The Lakers began to come back with a goal by Jessica Lister with 21 seconds remaining in the second period.

Jenna Kirkwood added her fourth goal of the year early in the third period to reduce Elmira's lead to 3-2.

However, it was Eagles defenseman Natasha Yeates who would put the game out of reach with a power-play goal with 6:38 remaining to make the final score 4-2.

Oswego is now 5-5-1 overall and 1-4-1 ECAC Women's West. Elmira improved to 8-2-1 overall and 5-0-0 ECAC Women's West.

Lakers goaltender Hilary Hitchman made 39 saves on the night, while Eagles goaltender Cara McGurry saved 10 shots.

The Lakers continue play against the Soaring Eagles Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Campus Center Arena.
