The Oswego State hockey team clinched first place in the SUNYAC by defeating SUNY Brockport 8-1 at the Tuttle North Ice Arena in Brockport on Saturday afternoon.
Oswego took an early lead, scoring four goals in the first period, three of them being on the power play. Halfway through the second the Lakers continued their onslaught as Peter Magagna scored the second of his two goals in the game, and Tony DiNunzio also had one.
The Lakers netted two more in the third. Ryan Ellis scored his second of the game, and Ryan Koresky added the final goal to give the Lakers an 8-1 win.
Magagna and Ellis had three points each with two goals and an assist. Koresky had two assists to go along with his goal, and senior captain Jocelyn Dubord had three assists. Rick Varone, Tony DiNunzio, and Ryan Woodward all had one goal and one assist.
Oswego finished the game 6-for-12 on the power play. Goaltender Ryan Scott made 22 saves for the Lakers, while Brockport netminder Greg Van't Hof stopped 26.
The Lakers will host a SUNYAC semifinal playoff series on Feb. 24-25 at Romney Field House against an opponent to be determined. Oswego State, the fifth-ranked team in the latest USCHO.com Division III Men's Poll, is 18-5-2 on the season.
