Oswego State rallied late and turned a close game into an 83-70 win over Oneonta on Saturday afternoon at Max Ziel Gymnasium. The Lakers went on a 12-1 run after the game was tied 57-57 with 7:26 remaining in the contest.
Oneonta entered the contest just one game behind the Lakers in the standings, but the win gave the second-place Lakers some cushion heading into the final week of the regular season.
Oneonta led 31-30 late in the first half but Oswego State scored seven points in the final minute and took a six-point lead to the locker room. In the run, Katie Kehn hit a 3-pointer from the right wing, Kelly Mraz hit a jumper in the paint and a steal by Samantha Driscoll led to a layup by Heather Merino.
Junior guard Kelly Mraz had 18 points and seven assists for Oswego State. Samantha Driscoll scored 13 points, Lacey Kimpland added 12, and Sarah Lombard had 11 points and six rebounds for Oswego State. The Lakers are now 17-5 overall and 12-2 in the SUNYAC.
Oneonta's Shannon Weir led all scorers with 23 points in the game. Beth Branham had 12 points and Gabrielle Doemel had 11. The Red Dragons are 16-7 overall and 10-4 in the SUNYAC.
