Two first-half goals from Utica's Katie Kutas held up in a 2-1 win for Utica College over Oswego State on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at Laker Field in Oswego.
Kutas scored her first goal of the game on a rebound in the 26th minute and then scored again seven minutes later on a rebound of her own shot. Kutas leads the Pioneers with 12 goals on the season.
The Lakers rallied over the final 12 minutes of the game and pulled to within one goal when Jenna Retzer set up Ashley Demeo for a goal with 10:32 left in the contest. Demeo had another great shot to tie it with 3:55 left but Utica goalkeeper Maggie Wright made a diving save to preserve the victory.
Wright finished with three saves on the afternoon while Oswego State goalie Kaitlin Daniels had 12 saves. The Pioneers improved to 6-3 on the year and the Lakers are 1-8.
Oswego State travels to face first-place Geneseo on Saturday in a SUNYAC contest. The game begins at 1 p.m.
