Roetzer's three goals lead field hockey to win at Wells

Oswego State freshman Brittany Roetzer scored three goals as the Lakers defeated Wells College 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon. Lori Teaney had two assists.

The Lakers are now 2-11 on the season and Wells fell to 2-10.

Oswego State took the lead in the 20th minute on Roetzer's first goal, which was assisted by Teaney, a lead that carried over to the second half.

The Lakers finally extended their advantage with two more Roetzer goals, one in the 54th minute on an assist from Teaney and another with just 6:20 remaining in the contest to give Oswego State a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Wells scored with 4:04 left to play to spoil the shutout bid of Laker goalie Jamie Scharfe. Wells goalkeeper Beth Cereo had 10 saves.

Oswego State outshot Wells 27-4 in the game and held a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners. Roetzer led the Lakers with nine shots in the game, and five were on goal.

The Lakers will play Saturday at the University of Rochester at 1 p.m.
